Kyphoplasty in Mexico City

Stabilising a vertebra that has collapsed after a compression fracture — restoring height, taking the pain of the fracture away, and doing it through a needle rather than an incision.

All-inclusive from US$ 13,300

A fracture that is treated from the inside

A vertebral compression fracture is a vertebra that has collapsed under load, usually because the bone has been weakened by osteoporosis. It can happen without a fall — a cough or lifting a suitcase is enough — and the pain is immediate, sharp and precisely located.

Kyphoplasty treats it without opening the back. A narrow cannula is passed into the fractured vertebra under imaging guidance, a balloon is inflated inside the bone to restore some of the lost height, and the cavity created is filled with bone cement that sets and stabilises the fracture.

Because the pain comes from movement at the fracture site, stabilising it often relieves the pain quickly — this is one of the few spine procedures where patients frequently notice a difference within a day.

Timing matters more here than elsewhere

Kyphoplasty works best on a relatively fresh fracture, before the vertebra has healed in its collapsed position. If you have had sudden localised back pain following a minor event, that is a reason to have imaging sooner rather than waiting to see whether it settles.

Treating the fracture is not treating the cause

A compression fracture from weakened bone signals that other vertebrae are at risk. Stabilising this one does not change that, so bone health assessment and treatment in your home country should follow. Your surgeon will say so directly rather than leave it implied.

Signs of a vertebral compression fracture

  1. Sudden back pain after a minor event

A cough, a lift or a small fall causing immediate, severe, well-localised back pain — often the first sign of a compression fracture.

  2. Pain that is worse standing

Sharp pain on standing or walking that eases on lying flat, because the fracture is being loaded.

  3. Loss of height, or a new stoop

Vertebral collapse shortens the spine and bends it forwards, sometimes before the fracture is diagnosed.

Kyphoplasty questions

  • How long does a Kyphoplasty procedure generally take?

A kyphoplasty surgery typically takes 30 to 60 minutes per treated vertebra. Since it’s a minimally invasive spine procedure, it’s often performed on an outpatient basis, allowing for a same-day discharge

  • How Do I Prepare for Kyphoplasty Surgery in Mexico?

Before undergoing kyphoplasty in Mexico, your spine specialist will perform imaging studies like an MRI or X-ray to confirm vertebral compression. You may be advised to stop certain medications, fast for several hours, and arrange transportation post-procedure.

  • How long will the results of my Kyphoplasty last?

Patients often experience immediate back pain relief after kyphoplasty. Results can be long-lasting, especially if you follow post-op care instructions and manage osteoporosis or other underlying conditions contributing to vertebral fractures.

  • Is it Safe to Perform a Kyphoplasty in Mexico?

Yes, kyphoplasty surgery in Mexico is safe when performed at accredited clinics with board-certified spine surgeons. Our facilities follow international safety protocols and use advanced imaging and surgical technology to ensure optimal outcomes.

  • When will I be able to return to normal activities after kyphoplasty?

Most patients resume light activities within 1–2 days. Full recovery may take a few weeks depending on your overall health and number of vertebrae treated. Our team will provide a personalized recovery plan to help you regain mobility safely.

  • What are the risks associated with Kyphoplasty surgery?

As with any medical procedure, kyphoplasty carries minor risks such as infection, bleeding, or leakage of bone cement. However, these risks are rare, and our minimally invasive approach helps minimize complications.

  • Can I Undergo Kyphoplasty If I Have Other Health Conditions?

Many patients with osteoporosis, arthritis, or other chronic health conditions are still good candidates for kyphoplasty surgery. Your spine specialist will evaluate your medical history to ensure it’s a safe and beneficial option for you.

  • Is physical therapy necessary after Kyphoplasty?

While not always required, physical therapy may be recommended post-kyphoplasty to strengthen back muscles, improve posture, and prevent future fractures—especially in patients with osteoporosis-related spinal issues.
