Hip Surgery in Mexico City

Total hip replacement and revision surgery, using the same implants and surgical technique as hospitals in the United States and Canada — at a fraction of the cost, and within weeks rather than after a year on a waiting list.

All-inclusive from US$ 15,000

A worn hip does not improve, and waiting has a cost of its own

Hip osteoarthritis is mechanical. The cartilage covering the ball and socket wears through, bone meets bone, and no amount of physical therapy puts that surface back. Once the joint reaches that point, replacement is the operation that resolves it — and the longer it is postponed, the more muscle and range of motion have to be rebuilt afterwards.

Total hip replacement removes the damaged surfaces and replaces them with a metal stem, a ball and a socket liner. It is one of the most predictable operations in orthopedics: most patients are standing the day of surgery, walking with support within days, and off walking aids within weeks.

Revision surgery is a different operation. When a previous implant has loosened, worn through or dislocated repeatedly, the old components have to come out before new ones go in, sometimes with bone grafting. It takes longer, costs more, and belongs with a surgeon who does it regularly.

Who is a candidate for hip surgery

Meeting one of these does not mean you need an operation. It means your imaging is worth a surgeon's opinion.

  1. Pain that has moved into your groin

Hip arthritis usually announces itself as groin or buttock pain, not pain on the outside of the hip.

  2. Pain at rest and at night

When the hip aches while you are lying still, the joint surface is usually gone rather than inflamed.

  3. Shoes, socks and stairs

Struggling to reach your own foot, or needing a handrail on every step, is a functional threshold surgeons take seriously.

  4. An implant that has worn out

A previous hip replacement that has loosened, worn through or dislocated repeatedly needs revision, not another injection.

Hip surgery questions

  • What are the risks associated with hip surgery?

While hip replacement and revision surgery are generally safe, they do carry potential risks, including infection, blood clots, nerve damage, bleeding, and reactions to anesthesia. Some patients may experience persistent pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility. In revision surgery, complications such as bone loss, implant loosening, or incomplete healing may also occur.Recovery can take several months, and high-impact activities should be avoided until full healing is achieved. It’s essential to discuss these risks with your hip specialist to understand how they relate to your unique case and the precautions taken to minimize complications.

  • Is Hip Surgery an Option if I Have Other Health Conditions?

If you have health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure, your doctor will conduct a comprehensive evaluation before recommending hip surgery. Properly managing these conditions beforehand is crucial to reducing surgical risks and ensuring a successful procedure with a smoother recovery.

  • How Can I Manage Pain After Hip Surgery?

Pain management is a crucial aspect of recovery, and several strategies can help reduce discomfort after hip surgery. At Orthopedic Surgeries Mexico, our specialists may prescribe medications to manage pain and inflammation, while applying ice packs can help minimize swelling. Keeping the leg elevated and performing recommended exercises are also effective in improving comfort and mobility. It is essential to follow the pain management plan provided by your healthcare team to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.
