How it works

From your first message to your flight home

Eight steps, in order, with what happens at each one. If any of them looks vague to you, that is a question worth asking us before you go further.

  1. 01

    Send your imaging

X-rays, MRI and a short description of your symptoms, by email or WhatsApp. There is no form to complete first.

  2. 02

    Meet your surgeon online

A free video consultation with the surgeon who would operate. They tell you which procedure applies, and whether surgery is the right answer yet.

  3. 03

    Receive a written quote

One all-inclusive figure covering surgery, hospital, hotel, transfers and follow-up. It does not change between the quote and the invoice.

  4. 04

    Book your flights

Once your surgery date is set, you book travel. We tell you which dates, and arrange everything on the ground.

  5. 05

    Arrive and be assessed

You are met at the airport. Pre-operative tests and a face-to-face consultation take place before surgery.

  6. 06

    Surgery and hospital stay

Your operation at an accredited private hospital, followed by monitored recovery in a private room.

  7. 07

    The recovery week

Seven nights in the partner hotel, with a physician visiting your room six days a week.

  8. 08

    Fly home, stay in contact

You return with a rehabilitation protocol, direct access to your surgeon, and insurance cover in place.

What you are actually paying for when you stay at home

The cost difference is not explained by cutting corners. It is explained by what a health system charges. In the United States, a self-pay total knee replacement runs to tens of thousands of dollars; the surgeon's fee is a small fraction of it. Most of the figure is facility charges, negotiated rates and administration.

In Canada and much of Europe the money is not the obstacle — the queue is. Publicly funded joint replacement can mean waiting a year or more, during which the joint continues to deteriorate, muscle wastes and the operation you eventually receive is performed on a worse starting point.

Medical tourism is a response to those two problems. It is not a response to a shortage of competent surgeons at home.

What to be sceptical about

  • Prices that require a form. If you cannot find out what something costs without giving up your phone number, the price is being adjusted to you.
  • A quote before anyone has seen your imaging. It will be revised, and the revision will arrive after you have committed.
  • Flying home two days after major surgery. The first week is when complications appear. A package that skips it has cut the wrong cost.
  • No named hospital. "An accredited private facility" is not an answer.
  • No plan for complications. Ask what happens, concretely and financially, if something goes wrong after you land back home.

Practical questions patients ask before deciding

How long do I need to be in Mexico?

Plan on around ten days for most joint procedures: pre-operative assessment, surgery, hospital stay and the seven included hotel nights. Complex spine cases can need longer, and your surgeon tells you before you book flights.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No. A bilingual patient assistant is with you throughout, and your consultations are in English.

Can someone come with me?

Yes, and it is a good idea. A companion stays in your hotel room at no additional charge.

Is it safe to fly after surgery?

After the recovery week, for the great majority of patients, yes — with the precautions your surgeon will specify. That is precisely why the week is included rather than optional.

What about follow-up once I am home?

You keep direct contact with your surgeon, and rehabilitation continues with a physiotherapist where you live, following the protocol your surgeon provides. See post-surgery support.

Tell us what hurts. We'll tell you what it costs.

Send your imaging and a short description of your symptoms. A surgeon reviews it and tells you what can be done, how long it takes, and exactly what it costs — at no cost and with no obligation.
